No extra-curricular program would be complete without a school choir. Singing is an essential way to enhance the students' musical abilities without the need for a musical instrument. The voice is the body's first and most natural instrument and is a logical step in enhancing a child's natural musical abilities. Singing can enhance physical and mental health as well as develop community and enhanced well-being. Aside from all of that, it's just plain fun to be in a choir, singing with friends and making new ones. There is discipline and commitment required to make great music with voices, and like sports, teamwork is required.

Singing is yet one more aspect in developing the whole child at Tall Pines School. While students from Grade/Level One to Four experience vocal music as part of their regular Music curriculum, Choir members have the ability to develop their talents further, learning harmonies and additional repertoire which all help to enhance their school experience. The Choir also provides individual students with a non-threatening environment within which to explore what their voice can do. Students from Grade/Level Two to Eight are invited to join either the Song Birds Junior Choir or the Semitones Senior Choir.

The Semitones (Senior Choir)

The Semitones are the Senior Choir at Tall Pines School. The Choir consists of students from Grades 5 to 8. Students must audition in order to become a member. Auditions take place the second week of school. Rehearsals are on Tuesdays after school from 3:45 - 4:30. The Semitones perform on numerous occasions throughout the school year.  They are a competition choir, and two years in a row have taken home first place at the Peel Music Festival.  Each year the Semitones will have the opportunity of singing “O Canada” at a Brampton Battalion game. They perform during the Holidays at both the Montessori and Junior School Evening of Good Tidings each December. The Semitones also perform a festive, uplifting concert at the Tall Pines Long Term Care Facility in December each year.  At the end of the year the Semitones attend the “Canada’s Wonderland” Music Festival! The Choir prepares an exciting selection of music and performs in front a large audience of school choirs. This upcoming year and hopefully ever year to follow, the Semitones will have the privilege of singing the Canadian National Anthem at the BLUE JAYS game! This is an exciting, once in a lifetime experience! The Semitones will put on a final concert near the end of the school year to showcase all of their hard.

The Song Birds (Junior Choir)

The Song Birds are the Junior Choir at Tall Pines School. The Choir consists of students from Grade/Level 2 to 4. Students must audition in order to become a member. The Song Birds perform on a few occasions throughout the school year. Each year the Song Birds will have the pleasure of singing “O Canada” at a Brampton Battalion game. This upcoming year and hopefully ever year to follow, the Song Birds will have the privilege of singing the Canadian National Anthem at the BLUE JAYS game!
